New Document Issue – Colombia Passport

Colombia is scheduled to introduce a redesigned passport on 1 April 2026, as part of a broader national-security and ‘technological sovereignty’ initiative. The programme is also notable for a planned shift in production responsibility toward the National Printing House of Colombia (Imprenta Nacional), reducing reliance on external contractors over time.

During an initial transition phase, passport booklets will be produced under a technical partnership with Portugal’s Imprensa Nacional–Casa da Moeda (INCM), with personalisation carried out in Colombia. The stated longer-term objective is to relocate the full production chain, including assembly and materials processing, to Colombia.

The new document will remain aligned with modern ePassport construction practice, including a biometric microchip and a set of security features consistent with ICAO MRTD best practice.
