Real-Time Crowd Authentication from NEC

NEC is set to launch a new biometric authentication system this month, using advanced facial recognition technology to authenticate large groups of people simultaneously, even while they are in motion.

The system is expected to enhance operational efficiency in high-traffic environments, such as airports and large venues, by reducing congestion and speeding up the admission process. Initially, the system will be rolled out in Japan, the United States, and Singapore, with global deployment to follow.

NEC’s system integrates its face recognition and matching technology, which can process large crowds in real- time, authenticating up to 100 people per minute without requiring them to stop. This capability allows the system to operate without the use of gates, which are commonly seen in conventional access control systems. The removal of such barriers simplifies the flow of people and reduces congestion, making the system ideal for places like airports and factories where long queues and crowded checkpoints are common.
