Nigeria and EU Deepen Border and Migration Partnership
Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior has outlined a significant expansion of cooperation with the European Union (EU) on border management and migration governance following high-level talks in Abuja on 4 February 2026.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo briefed a delegation led by EU Migration and Home Affairs Deputy Director Johannes Luchner, and EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS Gautier Mignot. The discussions focused on shifting from reactive responses to a preventive, technology-driven model for managing irregular migration and crossborder crime.
Nigeria highlighted recent deployments of an Advanced Passenger Information System integration with the IOM-backed MIDAS border management platform, and a national eBorder system now covering more than 60% of land borders.
