The Gambia Chooses Supplier for National ID Infrastructure Upgrade

The Government of The Gambia has signed a build -operate–transfer (BOT) contract with Margins ID Systems Applications Ltd (MIDSA), a subsidiary of Ghana’s Margins ID Group, to modernise the country’s identity infrastructure and produce new national identity cards.

The programme is intended to improve the security, efficiency and reliability of the national ID system, including implementation of a scalable National Identity Management System and an ICAO-compliant eID card infrastructure. MIDSA is expected to design and produce identity cards aligned with international standards, supporting broader government goals around service delivery and internal security.

The Gambian officials visited Margins’ facilities in Ghana during procurement evaluation, reviewing operational capability and international certifications and observing Ghana’s integrated national identification system which Margins helps operate with the National Identification Authority. The contract was awarded after a competitive process, with Margins stating the solution for The Gambia is a tailored system with ‘evolved architecture’ and enhanced security controls rather than a simple replication of Ghana’s platform.
