Mobile Identity Documents Require Trust

Mobile Identity Documents Require Trust

The future of ID cards, passports and driving licences is mobile. But the path to full digitisation still involves overcoming many challenges. At the heart of these challenges is the need to build trust with citizens.

Many government documents are already partially digitised. Today’s ID cards, passports and driving licences contain electronic chips that store the data needed to identify their holders. Compared to purely physical IDs, these chip-based documents offer a major advantage: their information can be seamlessly transferred to digital platforms without media disruption. This is an important basis for more efficient eGovernment processes.

The next logical step is to fully digitise ID documents – creating virtual versions stored on smartphones.
