Building a Secure Identity Community

This year, Reconnaissance completed a rebranding exercise across its newsletters. Each title now carries a strapline that states, in a few words, what it is for. For most, this was a largely descriptive exercise. For ID & Secure Document News™ (IDN) we chose something different: a line that expresses a purpose – ‘Building a secure identity community’.

IDN has never simply been a catalogue of new passports, ID cards and digital identity schemes. It reports those developments, but its underlying role is to support the organisations and individuals who design, operate and test identity systems and secure documents.

Though not enshrined in a formal charter, the editorial stance broadly follows the view that digital channels and credentials are advancing fast, but that physical identity documents remain the root of trust and the critical backstop for identity systems. The future is therefore seen as hybrid rather than ‘purely digital’, with physical and digital co-existing and reinforcing each other.
