Veridos Signs Contract for Nepal’s Biometric Passports

Veridos GmbH has officially signed a contract with Nepal’s Department of Passports (DoP) for the production of biometric passports, following an international competitive tendering process. The agreement, announced at the end of July, covers Package 2 of the project—comprising the supply of secure ePassport booklets, personalisation infrastructure, quality control systems, and packaging.

The German firm will be responsible for delivering 6.4 million passports over five years. Personalisation will take place in Nepal, supported by a new issuance platform to be co-developed with the DoP.

In parallel, Mühlbauer ID Services GmbH has been awarded Package 1 of the tender, covering the enrolment infrastructure, the eMRTD system, data management, and the national distribution architecture. Mühlbauer will build and deploy the digital infrastructure for enrolment and personalization across all 77 districts and Nepal's diplomatic missions abroad. This marks a shift in Nepal’s identity infrastructure, which has relied on a centralised personalisation model since 2010.
