Editorial: Identity in Crisis – Digital or Physical?

If you started reading this in anticipation of a definitive answer on how digital and physical ID documents can co-exist, I should apologise. It’s actually a personal look at how I might go about reasserting my identity in the event of a major crisis. But like many thought-experiments, you can learn a lot when you stress-test your ideas in extreme circumstances.

There is a small ‘portable safe’ that I keep in my house. It holds all the documents that I consider important enough to keep safe in the event of fire or other catastrophe – the idea being that when the flames are licking at my door, I will grab the safe box and head for safety. Maybe it’s due to the state of uncertainty that we’re living through at the moment, but I decided to take a look through it earlier this week.
