Germany Announces Plans for Digital ID Wallet
The German government has announced plans to develop a state digital wallet for smartphones, which will allow citizens to identify themselves digitally across the European Union. This move is part of the European Wallet for Digital Identity (EUDI) project, aimed at enabling secure and convenient digital identification for activities such as job applications, online banking, and interactions with public authorities.
The EUDI wallet will enable users to store identity data and official documents digitally and will also support signing with a qualified electronic signature. This will simplify various processes, offering a more efficient way to handle documentation.
