ID4Africa – Celebrating 10 Years of Advancing Digital Identity for Development

In May 2024, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ID4Africa, the premier global gathering for the Identity for Development (ID4D) movement, celebrated its 10th anniversary in Cape Town, South Africa.

Whereas previous events had been government-hosted, this year’s AGM was host-neutral, given its special, anniversary status.

In keeping with the occasion, the event shattered previous attendance records, with over 2,000 participants from 101 countries. These included a record number of delegates from African governments and global development agencies, representing over 60% of total attendees. Also present were 121 exhibitors, showcasing their expertise in physical and digital identity technologies.

But in addition to these more ‘traditional’ attendees, this year’s event drew a significantly higher number of new stakeholders, in the form of African parliament members, civil society organisations, and data protection authorities.
