EU Digital Identity Regulation Enters into Force

On 20 May 2024, the Digital Identity Regulation i came into force, marking a significant step in the evolution of digital identity management across the European Union.

This new regulation amends the previous Regulation (EU) No 910/2014, establishing the European Digital Identity Framework. By 2026, member states will be mandated to provide at least one EU Digital Identity Wallet to all citizens and residents.

The EU Wallet, a mobile application, will enable users to identify themselves seamlessly to both public and private online services throughout Europe. Beyond identification, the wallet will allow users to store, present, and share a variety of digital documents, ranging from university diplomas to train tickets. Additionally, it will facilitate the electronic signing or sealing of documents, streamlining numerous administrative processes.
