HID, a global provider of identity solutions, has unveiled its role in developing and deploying San Marino’s latest contactless ID card. This new national ID integrates security features and enhanced operational capabilities, representing advances in identity management for the historic republic.

The ID card incorporates the upgraded HID® SOMA™ operating system, designed to address contemporary security needs while optimising service delivery. In collaboration with systems integrator NIDO Srl Group, this multifunctional card streamlines access to diverse citizen services by acting as a residence permit, driving licence, health card and hunting licence, demonstrating operational efficiency and versatility.

San Marino, known as the world’s oldest republic and the fifth smallest nation, has initiated this modernisation to bring its identity infrastructure in line with global standards. Marialaura Marinozzi, Director of the Institutional Affairs and Justice Department, highlighted the country’s commitment to adopting the most advanced technologies and adhering to rigorous international security standards. The new ID card complies with EU regulations and is designed for integration across a broad spectrum of public services.
