At the recent High Security Printing™ Asia conference in Bangkok, Thailand, Serge Wsevolojskoy, Product Manager for Security Features at IDEMIA Smart Identity, presented a comprehensive technical overview of the company’s new Identity Document Quick Response (IDQR) security system. The feature integrates physical and digital security measures designed to address the increasing complexities of identity verification.

A bit of history

Serge first described how the development of IDQR marked a significant progression in the history of data encoding.

From its origins as Morse code in the 19th century to linear barcodes in the mid-20th century, data encoding technology has steadily evolved to meet the growing need for efficiency and information capacity. Linear barcodes, such as the Universal Product Code (UPC), have become indispensable in retail and logistics. However, their limited data capacity and lack of versatility necessitated advances in encoding methods.
