DOVIDs for Automated and Remote Verification
In today’s fast-paced digital world, document authentication is undergoing a significant transformation. Traditional manual verification scenarios, for example at border controls, are complemented by automated processes and self- service kiosks. Remote verification during customer onboarding is yet another growing trend. This shifting landscape requires an evolution of security features to meet the changing needs in document authentication.
With the indispensable demand for efficiency and accuracy, and rising volumes of travellers, automated document authentication processes are gaining lots of prominence. DOVIDs (Diffractive Optically Variable Image Devices), when appropriately designed, are especially well suited for seamlessly integrating with automated document reader systems, enabling reliable and rapid verification.
As an example, the KINEGRAM® – among other select technologies – can be designed for optical machine- based authentication, without any hardware modifications. The result is a much-improved reliability in detecting document fraud without any compromise in process efficiency and passenger throughput at borders.
The rise of remote customer onboarding and online transactions has necessitated reliable remote document verification solutions using mobile devices. DOVIDs that are present in the ID document can be identified using mobile phone apps. Thus, the identity of the document bearer can be verified with a higher assurance level while maintaining a smooth and convenient customer onboarding process.
While the document authentication landscape becomes more automated, it is crucial that the more sophisticated security features are designed to be included in the identity verification process. DOVIDs respond particularly well to this challenge, as they can be designed to incorporate manifold functionalities, some of which can easily be linked to the digital world.
The topic of authenticating DOVIDs using smartphones is explored in greater detail in Reconnaissance’s new report ‘Smartphones for Authentication’.
